Wigan have signed Celtic defender Gary Caldwell on a four and half year deal. It is believed that the fee is somewhere in the region of £1m pounds and the players wages will be around £20,000 a week. Caldwell was also wanted by Championship side Middlesbrough but Wigan’s manager Roberto Martinez moved quickly to secure the signature of the 27-year old.

Caldwell joined Celtic in 2006, helping the club win two League titles and two domestic Cups. He was also voted 2009 Clydesdale Bank SPL Player of the Year and Scottish Football Writers Footballer of the Year. Caldwell is Wigan’s third signing of the January transfer window following the arrivals of Steven Gohouri and Vladimir Stojkovic.

Caldwell spoke about the move , “To play in the Premier League has always been an ambition of mine but I know how tough it’s going to be to get in the side and I need to focus on winning a place and doing the best I can for my new club. It’s a massive wrench for me to leave a club like Celtic but I want to thank the club and all the fans for the support they’ve given me in my time there. But I’m a Wigan Athletic player now and I can’t wait to get started in the Premier League.”

Macedonian striker Goran Pandev has completed his move to Italian champions Inter Milan. The Lazio forward who was at Inter Milan from 2001-2004 but never made an appearance during that time has signed a four and half year contract and will remain with the Nerrazuri till 2014.

Pandev transferred to Lazio from Inter Milan in 2004 where he achieved considerable success scoring 48 times in 159 games. But in the last year, a furious battle erupted between Pandev and club president Claudio Lotito. Unhappy with Pandev’s desire to leave the club, Lotito “froze” Pandev from the Lazio squad. Pandev trained on his own for four months before filing for termination of contract in September 2009. The Lega Calcio contract resolution board finally gave the verdict in Pandev’s favour and he was allowed to find new employers.

A host of clubs from across Europe were eager to sign “free-agent” Pandev. Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, Zenit St.Petersberg were all keen on the forward but he had his sights set on a return to San Siro.

Pandev will wear the number 27 shirt at Inter. He will form a deadly attacking quartet along with Samuel Eto’o, Diego Milito and Mario Balotelli.
