The Premier League has made public statistics detailing the amount of fees paid by Premier League clubs to agents. The details are for the period from 1st October 2008 to 30th September 2009.

Not surprisingly, Manchester City top the list with a whopping £12.9m paid in fees. Second in the list are Chelsea, with £9.6m in fees. Liverpool are third with £6.7m, while Tottenham Hotspur are fourth with £6.1m. Wigan Athletic are a surprising fifth with £5.5m. Only three clubs spent less than £1m- Birmingham, Stoke and Burnley.

It is the first time the Premier League has officially released this figures. The trend was started by the Football League around five years ago. The FA welcomed the Premier League’s disclosure, saying it would certainly help to bring about more transparency. The clubs spent around £70m across 800 transactions, averaging around £87,500/- per transaction.
